Are there other ways to knot Gems and Pearls?
Yes, there are many. This is the way we like.
Why do you typically use four threads?
We find this minimizes stretching and breaking. Also it does allow us flexibility to remove one to two of the threads. When this is not possible we like to use two - as shown in our pearl video.
Why do you remove thread(s) at the end when adding your clasp?
This allows your thread to be able to pass back through your beads a second time.
Why do you use four to five knots at the end of the small necklace?
This gives it added security.
Which thread do I use with which strand?
Use the size “D” strand for small bead strands and for Pearl strands. Use size ‘FF” for Amethyst and Smoky Quartz large strands, “F” for Rainbow Gem kits, and “E” for Orange Aventurine kits.

My pearl holes are too small - help!

Can I reuse my needles?
Yes! You should be able to use them a handful of times. Eventually they might break. If the eye of the needle no longer fits your thread - watch our video below.
How do I get out knots?
We have included a video to show you how to untangle them.
What if my knot is messy?
Gently pull on all four (or two, if using the Pearl kit) threads individually to resolve this issue. If that technique does not work, use our knot removal technique above to redo your knot.
What if my knot is loose and far from the last bead?
You can tighten the knot a little bit as seen in the following video. If it is very far or loose, undo the knot and do it over again.
I’m left handed and this is shown on a right handed person.
Since Jessica is right handed, some of these videos may be backwards for a left handed person. Here is an example of what the hand knotting motion looks like when the hands are reversed.
Where can I get more supplies?
Etsy is also a great source for one off bead strands. We will be launching more add on kits soon with more bead options!
How do I know what size thread to use in the future?
We find it best to have a variety of sizes to try with your strand first. Suppliers have very different hole sizes and you cannot tell by the outside size of the beads. We like the Purely Silk brand included in your kit and use their sizes D-FFF on our necklaces depending on the size of the holes.
